Golf Course Guide

Malaysia is truly unique as a golfing destination, the diversity of its courses is unrivalled in the world. They can be found high in the mountains, along the seashore, on tropical islands, amidst towering rain forests and in the heart of the city.

As well as offering spectacular scenery, many of these courses are equipped with the best facilities and amenities to be found anywhere. Here are some suggestions as to where you might head to for your round of golf in and around Kuala Lumpur. These golf courses will make your golfing a complete and unforgettable experience.

Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort
No Jalan 3/155B, Bukit Jalil,
57000 Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA

Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort is one of the most talked about clubs in the Klang Valley. Our signature golf course is sprawled over a 165-acre site amidst lush tropical greenery and scenic views. A superb course designed by renowned Australian designer Max Wexler, the international class 18-hole is a delightful challenge to the skills of any golfer. Your first experience here will definitely not be the last as this challenging 18-hole golf course will keep you coming back for more. Designed to blend with nature and the green freshness of the undulating fairways, it is definitely a golfer's paradise. Each session on the greens may present a different set of circumstances but it only makes the game that much more interesting. Of course nothing can beat the pure rush of adrenalin as you successfully negotiate the course. And faithful to the golfer's credo of enjoying their favourite game at any time, night golfing is an added value feature at Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort as the 18 holes are lit up for the pleasure of golf enthusiasts.

Tropicana Golf & Country Resort
Jalan Kelab Tropicana, Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, 47410 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, MALAYSIA

The Tropicana Golf & Country Resort's 27-hole championship golf course is known to be among the best in the country, with many golf enthusiasts regularly making this a key stop of their golfing itinerary.

At the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, there is a game of golf to be enjoyed no matter day or night. There are two challenging dream courses complete with rolling slopes and sweeping valleys, each designed to the United States Golfers Association specifications, which offer golfing pleasure to champion and amateur golfers alike. The nine-hole East Course and the 18-hole West Course feature strategically located sand and water hazards amidst picturesque holes on the rolling green.

The excellent macro and micro drainage system of the courses ensures that players need not delay their games after rain. Game can be resumed a mere 15 minutes even after a heavy, tropical downpour. In addition, the courses are automatically irrigated by a sophisticated, computerised system of sprinklers, which control the volume, spot and duration of water sprayed. As night arrives, there is also no need for keen golfers to abandon their game as 18 holes (nine holes on each course) are lit up for continued play by clusters of non-glare floodlights, a high-tech lighting system is similar to that used in the Barcelona Olympics.

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club
No.1, Jalan 31/100A, Section 31, Kota Kemuning, 40460 Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan, MALAYSIA

Nestled in the middle of Kota Kemuning, easily accessible via the Shah Alam Expressway and a mere 15minutes drive from Subang Jaya, Kota Permai Golf & Country Club is arguably one of the best courses in the region. An 18-hole course of international standards, the home of the Volvo Masters is designed by Ross Watson and plays to a par 72, covering vast undulating terrain.

The opening hole plays fairly easy to the experienced golfer. The tranquil start requires long shots with moderate caution of the bunkers littered at the sides of the wide fairway. The par 5 measuring 497metres (red) hardly threatens and instead offers itself as a serene beginning for golfers of all levels. The 2nd hole, a par 4,339 metres (black), 314 metres (white), 280 metres (red) is the course’s most beautiful hole, deriving great splendour from the lake resting on the left side of the fairway.

The clubhouse offers a variety of activities including swimming, sauna and steam bath, badminton, tennis squash and table tennis. Amenities include a baby room, children’s room reading room and gymnasium.

Saujana Golf & Country Club
No Saujana Resort, Seksyen U2, 40150 Shah Alam, MALAYSIA

Since its opening in 1986, Saujana Golf & Country Club has established itself as Malaysia's No. 1 golf club. Carved out of a former palm and rubber plantation and set among rolling hills and large tranquil lakes, Saujana has two internationally famous golf facilities - the Palm Course and the Bunga Raya Course - both designed by Ronald Fream.

Saujana has hosted seven Malaysian Opens; three Kosaido Malaysian Ladies Opens and the 2002 World Amateur Golf Team Championships which comprise the Eisenhower Trophy and the Espirito Santo Trophy. The two world renowned courses are endorsed by the R&A to host international tournaments and have been the venues of choice for many international events.

The two courses have been accorded countless international accolades including “The Best Championship Course in Asia (Palm Course)” by Asian Golf Monthly 2005; and #69 "Top 100 Best Courses outside the USA (Bunga Raya Course)” by Golf Digest 2005.

Saujana is sited 58 km from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the south and only 15 km from the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur to the east.

Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort
8th Mile, Genting Highlands, 69000 Pahang Darul Makmur, MALAYSIA

There is nothing like an invigorating game of golf made more pleasurable by the salubrious mountain air on a Ronald Fream designed championship golf course. Indeed the refreshing cool wind on the golf course is a welcome change from the heat and humidity of the lowlands.

Your short game skill, especially putting should come in handy at Awana's Bent-grass greens which are exceptionally fast. There is no rough here but a severe hook or slice could land your ball into the surrounding primary forest. Precision is all important in this layout.

While all 18 holes are challenging in their own way, there are several things golfers may want to take note of. The par 3 fourth is a scenic and dramatic hole with a personality of its own. It is a hole for the accurate player, as the pond fronting the green will punish weak hitters and the canyon at the back will penalise all strong hitters.

The eighteen is a fitting challenging finishing hole. Tee shots must be of decent length to avoid the large fairway bunkers. A slice will end up in the ravine. The approach shot must land not bounce onto the three-tiered and dramatically-contoured green which slopes back toward the sand trap in front.
